Biography
Smruthi Mukund is a part-time lecturer in algorithms and machine learning at the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. She is a seasoned machine learning (ML) practitioner with over 20 years of experience in industry applications. She is deeply passionate about designing and developing ML and big data solutions that positively impact millions of people while creating scalable solutions for complex business problems.
Her expertise lies in integrating natural language processing (NLP) technologies and research into various applications, including search, natural language understanding, fraud and abuse detection, query understanding, and e-commerce ranking. Mukund has held prominent roles at leading tech companies like eBay, Amazon, Amazon Alexa, and Twitter.
Currently, she heads the Personalization and Insights AI/ML team at JP Morgan Chase, where her team focuses on enabling customers to discover and manage their Chase products seamlessly. With the growing adoption of generative AI (GenAI) in the financial domain, her research now centers on responsible AI and bias detection.
