A campus with a community mission

The mission of the Roux Institute is to serve the state of Maine and boost its thriving tech economy. From its research to business partners, Roux is driven by a community-driven ethos that fosters collaboration with a variety of nonprofit and K-12 partners.

From Jackson Lab to Maine Health, the campus has hosted research and business organizations in downtown Portland. Highlighted research pillars include computational medicine and human data interaction, as well as the Institute for Experiential Artificial Intelligence. Year-round startup incubators and dozens of companies provide students the opportunity to make an impact locally and beyond.

The campus offers a variety of spaces for students to learn and engage on projects together: the Collaboration Cafe, breakout rooms, and open-planning classrooms with mobile furniture. Art displayed on campus weaves together the work of Portland-area artists with the educational programs on campus.

Featured faculty: Scott Valcourt

Scott Valcourt is a teaching professor within Khoury College at Northeastern’s Roux Institute in Portland. As a national research leader in cyber infrastructure, Valcourt has been part of the development of more than a dozen worldwide networking technologies.
