4. Register for classes

Before registering for any coursework, reach out to your faculty advisor(s) to discuss your options. New students should reach out to their faculty advisor(s) by May 1 to discuss registration plans in advance of registration opening on May 7. Khoury College recommends that first-year students take four semester hours of classroom coursework along with four semester hours of Readings with their faculty advisor for a total of eight SH of coursework.

All incoming students must register for at least eight SH of regular coursework. Learn more about course registration, the PhD Computer Science curriculum, the PhD Cybersecurity curriculum, and the PhD Personal Health Informatics curriculum. If students are not fully registered for eight SH of coursework by July 1, 2026, it may delay access to labs, stipends, health insurance, and/or visa status.

Tuition fees will be automatically added to your bill upon registration. These tuition fees are covered by your PhD funding package and will be cleared from your bill in October 2026, after the start of the fall semester. We will discuss your billing and funding package application in detail during orientation in September.

5. Confirm health insurance and submit immunizations

The Northeastern University Student Health Plan fee of $2849** will be automatically added to your bill. The NUSHP fee is covered by your PhD funding package and will be cleared from your bill in October 2026, after the start of the Fall semester. We will discuss your billing and funding package application in detail during orientation in September. Learn more about waiving NUSHP and about submitting your immunization records.
