Katherine Socha
Bio
Katherine Socha is an associate teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Arlington, Virginia.
Socha teaches the “Discrete Structures” and “Algorithms” graduate courses, and is passionate about the way that they lay out the mathematical foundations needed to understand advanced computational concepts. She engages with the Align program to help students transform their lives and shift their professional trajectories.
Prior to joining Khoury College in 2023, Socha taught advanced high school mathematics, developed curricula, and mentored student groups at The Park School of Baltimore. She previously worked as director of education policy for Math for America and was an associate professor of mathematics at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Outside of academia, she studies and plays the hammered dulcimer, a cross-cultural instrument whose strings are stretched over a trapezoidal sound board and struck with small mallets.
