Biography
Hsiao-An (Justin) Wang is an assistant teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston.
Wang is deeply committed to cybersecurity education, with a focus on increasing student awareness of real-world cyber threats through applied instruction, mentorship, and experiential learning. Since joining Khoury College in 2022, he has taught “Foundations of Cybersecurity” and the college’s cybersecurity capstone, where he particularly values guiding students as they transform early concepts into functional, real-world solutions. He also serves as the faculty mentor for NU Security and the CTF Club, supporting student engagement beyond the classroom.
Wang’s research explores the effect of increased realism on cybersecurity learners, and whether AI-generated, solution-agnostic hints can improve learning outcomes, student confidence, and problem-solving behaviors relative to traditional support in cybersecurity education. His work has appeared in conferences and journals including CISSE, SIGCSE, ICCWS, COMPSAC, and ARES.
In his free time, Wang enjoys weightlifting, mentoring students, and both volunteering and continuing his professional development in the cybersecurity community.
