Biography
Hazra Imran is an associate teaching professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Vancouver.
With more than 18 years of experience in academia, Imran teaches database systems, capstone projects, web development, and Align program courses. Her research investigates how AI-driven analytics and large language models can enhance personalized and emotion-aware learning experiences, particularly through adaptive gamification strategies. Her work applies human–computer interaction principles to design engaging, data-driven educational tools that dynamically adjust to learners’ cognitive and emotional states. Additionally, Imran explores theoretical and empirical approaches to game-based learning, examining how personalization techniques and affective computing improve student motivation, engagement, and long-term knowledge retention.
Beyond academia, Imran engages in research collaborations and technological advancements in education, regularly presenting her work at global conferences. She has served on numerous university and journal committees and maintains an active publication history. She holds a PhD in computer science and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Athabasca University in Canada, where she focused on advanced adaptivity and personalization in learning systems.
When she is not teaching or researching, Imran enjoys cooking and is currently training in Bharatanatyam, a 2,000-year-old classical Indian dance form.
