Black Voices in Tech: An Educator’s Journey Through Teaching, Research, and Impact (Miami)
February 23 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EST
The Tech Collective Presents: Black Voices in Tech
In celebration of Black History Month, join us in-person for In Conversation with Dr. Mwaura, a candid look at an educator’s journey across continents, disciplines, and communities. Originally from Kenya and now an associate teaching professor at Northeastern University, Dr. Mwaura reflects on his path through teaching, research, and service, and how those experiences shape his commitment to broadening participation in computing. From AI and algorithms classrooms to global initiatives like AI for Agriculture and international exchange programs, this conversation explores how education, when done with intention, can be a powerful tool for equity, opportunity, and long-term impact.
Black Voices in Tech is a signature series presented by the African-American sub-tech collective at Khoury College of Computer Sciences, dedicated to amplifying the experiences and leadership of Black technologists, educators, and innovators. Through conversations, talks, and panels, the series highlights how teaching, research, and technology intersect with culture, equity, and opportunity. Black Voices in Tech creates space for dialogue, visibility, and action — centering stories that shape the present and future of computing.e paragraphs about the event
