oSTEM at Northeastern

An open space for Northeastern’s queer STEM community

oSTEM at NU is a branch of the national organization Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, which prepares LGBTQ+ students for achievement in STEM.

oSTEM holds panels, workshops, and events that encourage members to connect with other LGBTQ+ students and STEM professionals, and to develop strong bonds and a sense of community. In addition to facilitating connections and advocating for increased visibility of LGBTQ+ people in STEM, oSTEM offers guidance and tangible resources to navigate the workplace as an LGBTQ+ person.

We try to have a mix of casual meetings and professional development meetings throughout the academic year. Some of our professional meetings include Q&A panels with local industry organizations or NU professors. Casual meetings include our beginning-of-semester mixer and other fun meetings such as movie nights or game nights to build social connections with fellow students.

oSTEM values integrity, intentionality, respect, passion, and grit, and encourages any LGBTQ+ STEM students seeking a supportive community to check the group’s Instagram page for upcoming events.

If you’re looking for a tight-knit community as you build your career, oSTEM is the club for you
