Tech for the Culture

An innovative initiative for transforming the culture of technology

The Tech Collective

Our mission: Breaking barriers to make an impact on society

The Tech Collective, supported by our sub-collectives, aims to be a leader in tech by broadening participation of underrepresented groups. The Tech Collective works to serve as an educational resource, recognizing historical barriers that have prevented the progression of underrepresented groups in tech. We strive to connect and support students from a broad range of educational backgrounds to have a positive impact on the tech field — and society.

Scholarships that broaden participation

Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) scholarships

Northeastern University is excited to offer four WiCyS members a 25% scholarship toward earning a master’s in cybersecurity from Khoury College. Our MS in Cybersecurity programs prepare students to address evolving digital threats across key industries. The direct-entry MS in Cybersecurity is for students with prior programming experience, and our Align MS is designed for students from any undergraduate background (no prior tech experience required). Both pathways equip graduates to analyze risks, strengthen security systems, and support organizational protection efforts.

Offered at Boston and Arlington campuses; for more information, contact Madison Barton.

University-supported partner organization scholarships

Northeastern University partners with select professional organizations to support access to graduate education through university-supported scholarship opportunities.

Our tech collectives

African-American Collective

The collective focuses on creating a supportive environment that fosters a sense of belonging and serves as a resource for the community. We recognize and honor the unique challenges and barriers faced by the Black/African-American community, and we strive to create a sense of ownership in institutional initiatives and educational opportunities. Our goal is to cultivate and develop systems that support underrepresented students at every stage of their educational journey, from entry to graduation.

Disability Collective

The collective focuses on empowering a community that brings together individuals with varied disabilities to foster support, advocacy, and belonging. We aim to create resources and strategies to navigate societal challenges and institutional barriers. We strive to create more equity and accessibility for all individuals regardless of their ability to participate fully.

Hispanic-Latino Collective

The collective is dedicated to introducing the Hispanic-Latino community to opportunities in the tech field, inspiring them to see themselves in this industry. We strive to connect the community with supportive individuals who reflect their experiences, while fostering an environment that cultivates and develops strategies to support underrepresented students in pursuing new opportunities.

Indigenous Collective

The collective focuses on enhancing belonging by promoting the rights, traditions, and well-being of Indigenous communities. Through advocacy and outreach, we aim to increase access to computer science programs, fostering a supportive environment for Indigenous students. By bridging gaps in representation, we strive to create an empowered community that actively shapes the future of computer science education at Northeastern University.

LGBTQ+ Collective

The collective aims to create a safe and supportive space for individuals interested in the tech field. By fostering an environment of acceptance and belonging, we strive to empower members of the LGBTQ+ community to explore and pursue careers in technology. Our collective provides mentorship, resources, networking opportunities, and educational programs. Through these efforts, we hope to break down barriers within the tech industry, ensuring that everyone can achieve their full potential.
