Biography

Samantha Dies is a doctoral student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston. She is advised by Tina Eliassi-Rad.

Dies is fascinated by the intersection of computer science and public policy. Her research aims to use machine learning and network science to analyze trends and uncover the mechanisms driving participation and influence within social networks, and to propose effective interventions into those systems.

Dies’s interest in her PhD area was sparked while working as an undergraduate researcher at Georgetown University, where she wrote a senior thesis investigating the ethical norms around the use of social media data in computing research. She joined Khoury College in 2022 to investigate other network science concepts with Eliassi-Rad.

In her free time, Dies crochets and plays on Northeastern’s club women's water polo team, albeit not at the same time.
