Gail Fitzgerald is the Director of Marketing and Digital Strategy at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences.

She oversees marketing, events and communications for Khoury College. Prior to Northeastern, Gail worked at Tufts University in the Department of Computer Science, the Center for Engineering Outreach, and TECnet. Gail earned her BS in Business Administration from Northeastern University.

What are the specifics of your educational/career background?

I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northeastern University. After graduation, I took a job with my co-op employer, TECnet. The small non-profit at Tufts University worked with the Department of Commerce’s NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership to facilitate sharing of best practices and communications between centers across the country. With the advent of the Internet, we developed technologies to enable these centers to collaborate online.

I eventually became the Director of TECnet, where I dealt with all aspects of running a non-profit, from grant writing and financial management to marketing and project management. My team and I delivered training on the use of the Internet as a collaboration tool, while also spending time designing and developing websites.

I moved from TECnet to the Center for Engineering Outreach at Tufts University, where I worked on distance learning initiatives before shifting to manage Tufts’ Department of Computer Science. Today, I work as the director of Marketing and Digital Strategy at the Northeastern University College of Computer and Information Science.

What are the key aspects of your role at Northeastern? What do you enjoy most about what you do?

As the director of Marketing and Digital Strategy at CCIS, I manage the marketing team, which oversees the website and all print materials, communications and social media for the college. I enjoy the multifaceted position, with many exciting projects to dive into – all of which benefit from the exceptional talents and material provided by CCIS’ students, faculty, and staff.

What’s the most compelling thing to you about the work that goes on at CCIS?

Computer science is part of day to day life for every single person, even though many people never even realize it. Working at CCIS I get to see all of the amazing applications that computer science has and how it can improve so many aspects of our lives.

Where did you grow up or spend your most defining years?

I grew up in Central New York before moving to Rhode Island, where I attended high school.

What led you to work in your field and/or study at your college?

When I enrolled at Northeastern University, I studied physical therapy, but quickly found my passion in the College of Business. I have always loved living in Boston and take great pride in working for my alma mater.
