Biography
Dídac Alonso López is a PhD student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston. He is advised by Khoury College’s Lorenzo Torresani and the Institute for Experiential AI’s Agata Lapedriza.
Since he was a child, Alonso López has been fascinated by the idea of computer models that can understand what they perceive. He finds the rapid evolution and multidisciplinary nature of the computer vision field — as well as its combination of data science and physics — endlessly engaging. Going forward, Alonso López is particularly interested in applying computer vision to health care, having seen modeling bottlenecks firsthand while working on the manufacturing and commercial sides of the pharmaceutical industry.
Before joining Khoury College in 2026, Alonso López held data scientist and researcher roles at pharmaceutical giant Boehringer Ingelheim, the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics at CSIC-UPC, and the Braatz Group at MIT. He earned his undergraduate double degree at CFIS, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya's center of excellence for interdisciplinary studies, which admits a small cohort each year through its own mathematics and physics entrance exams. He received a perfect score for his final undergraduate thesis on hybrid modeling in biomedicine, which he completed in the Braatz Group. Alonso holds a "la Caixa" Foundation Fellowship, a highly competitive award that fully funds the first two years of his PhD.
In his free time, Alonso López enjoys soccer, reading, learning new recipes, and spending time with friends.
