Bahruz Jabiyev is a PhD student in the Cybersecurity program at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences, advised by Professor Engin Kirda and Professor William Robertson. Bahruz grew up in Baku, Azerbaijan and earned his undergraduate degree from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. His research is mainly focused on internet safety problems, more specifically on the fake news problem, these days. Currently, the specific problem he is working on is the detection of pictures that contain fake quotes.
After my first two years of the PhD program, I have taken courses both on computer security and artificial intelligence. These courses have helped me to better devise solutions to research problems.
My research interests mainly lie in Internet safety and security. Both of these areas are very exciting research areas, besides being in need for high quality research.
My research dream is to make Internet much safer than today for everyone, especially for vulnerable people. This is a long journey and will require me to do research on lots of different problems threatening Internet community.
The most interesting thing about the research is that, when you start to do research on a certain problem, it looks very challenging in the beginning, but as you dig into it, new solution ideas emerge, which in turn encourage you to dig further and further and get it done.
Going forward, my main goal is to gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a good research scientist and solve various problems using research.
I grew up in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. While I spent most of my time in Baku growing up, I would go to Ordubad to visit my grandparents on summer vacations.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. I chose METU because of the high-quality education they offer, also they are one of the most prestigious universities in Turkey.
