BRUSH UP YOUR SKILLS: KHOURY COLLEGE’S SIGNATURE INTERVIEW PRACTICE EVENT SERIES
This event will now span the Spring 2024 semester (end of Jan. – March 2024) and provide more opportunities for our co-op partners and students to participate in this signature Khoury College program.
What is Brush Up Your Skills?
Employers volunteer to host mock interviews for our student searching for co-op. Employers will meet with a mix of first-time co-op job seekers and students who have previously been on co-op. Employers can host behavioral or technical interview sessions (or both!) and can choose the timing, date, and structure of their sessions.
What Does this Program Accomplish for My Company?
This is an opportunity for employers to get a jump start on meeting with co-op seekers and to put a face with the name on the resume. Students participate in this program to practice their interview skills and get to know, and network with, co-op employers. By helping students prepare for the behavioral and technical interview processes, employers showcase their investment in co-op students and programs – which students notice!
This is a great opportunity for employers to:
- build a strong brand on campus
- increase visibility and generate interest in their co-op roles
- support Khoury students in their search
As an employer volunteer, you will be able to select a date and time that works for you and we will promote it to all Khoury undergraduate students searching for a co-op job. All sessions are currently held virtually.
What is the process?
Once an employer indicate interest in joining us, we will be in touch with a sign-up sheet to choose a date and time, and we will set up a sign-up sheet for students who are interested in joining on that date and time. Students will be asked to have their resume ready to share before/during the interview, and we will share with them the employer virtual call-in/video link before the session and share with the employer representative(s) hosting the session the list of names, emails, majors of the students who will join, about 24 hours before the session.
What Does a Brush Up Your Skills Technical Interview Session Look Like?
We advise that technical interviews are small group sessions (3 – 5 students) and are either 25 minutes or more. Employers can sign up to do 2 sessions over the course of an hour, 25 mins each with a 5 minute break in between – or can sign up for another timeline if they prefer! We encourage employers to provide the opportunity for students to ask questions, to try to work through a problem on their own and to explain their thinking, and for the employer to take the time to provide feedback for those in the session.
What Does a Brush Up Your Skills Behavioral Interview Session Look Like?
Students sign up for a 1:1 session with a company representative to practice common behavioral interview questions (“Tell me about yourself,” “please describe a situation when…”). If the employer representative would like to review the student’s resume, or let the student try out asking questions, that is great too!
Next Steps
If you are interested in hosting a behavioral or technical interview practice session, we are so excited to have you join us in Spring 2024! Please reach out to Khoury-coop-events@northeastern.edu or to your co-op faculty contact at Khoury College, and we will be in touch about next steps! Click here to indicate interest in this event.
