Ever since I was little, I’ve loved soccer. It was a huge part of my childhood, so when I saw this assignment, my mind went straight to it. A penalty kick is the simplest moment in soccer but also the most stressful. It’s just you and the goalie with everyone watching. I wanted my game to replicate that feeling. My favorite part is the power. You get to decide how hard you hit the ball. Too soft and the goalie saves it easily. Too hard and it flies over the bar. That’s how it feels in real life, where you’re always guessing how much to put on it. The second choice I’m happy with is the timer. With each kick, you have less time to decide where and when to shoot. At first, you can take your time, but by the last kicks, you have to commit quickly. That's what makes it feel like real pressure instead of just aiming at a target. I also kept it to five kicks, like a real shootout. That's short enough to replay, but long enough that the last kick actually matters. Honestly, working with Claude wasn’t perfect. The idea was there from the start and well laid out. However, the first version was very basic. The graphics looked rough, and it didn’t really feel like soccer. I pushed it to make everything look more realistic. Then I added the five-kick format and then the shrinking timer.

So is the game mine? I think mostly yes. I didn't write the code, but every big choice came from me: the sport, the power bar, the five kicks, the pressure from the timer. Claude was like a really fast builder who needed someone to tell it what to build, and to tell it when it got something wrong.

Examples of prompts I used:

- "Build a single-file HTML arcade game called PENALTY KICK…" (my starting

prompt)

- "Make it a 5 kick format."

- "Make me make a decision quicker."

AI Disclosure:

I used two Claude tools for the project. I started with Claude desktop chat to fully understand the assignment, set up my folder, brainstorm different game ideas, and write my starting prompt. The i used Claude Code to actually build the game. I didn’t write the code myself. After the first draft, I played the game and told Claude Code in normal language what to change and fix, over about [#] rounds. The main changes I asked for were making the graphics more realistic, switching to a 5-kick format, and giving the player less time to decide where and when to shoot. I threw out the original graphics because they were too basic and didn't feel like soccer.
