James Heathers is a Post-Doctoral Researcher working with Professor Matthew Goodwin on bio-signals and meta-science research. Heathers’ research is focused on data science and personal health informatics. Prior to joining Northeastern, Heathers worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Poznan University of Medical Sciences researching Electrocardiology. He earned his PhD and MS degrees from the University of Sydney.

About Me

  • Hometown: Sydney, Australia
  • Field of Research: Data Science, Personal Health Informatics

What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?

  • Endeavour Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2015-2016) – Electrocardiology, PUMS, Poznan.
  • PhD (2011-2014) – Cardiac psychophysiology, University of Sydney
  • MSc (2008-2010) – Psychology, University of Sydney.

What are your research interests?

My research is in biosignals and meta-science. I work largely with HRV, but have used (literally) all others at some point. I primarily develop novel signal analytical techniques, and establish appropriate methodology.

What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?

Short-to-medium term goal: develop an accurate non-invasive measurement of cardiac SNS outflow.

What aspect of what you do is most interesting?

I am obsessed with the task of turning biological data into human information.

What are your research or career goals, going forward?

Establish a biosignal working group.
