What are the specifics of your educational/career background?
I graduated with a Degree in Banking and Finance. My career started when I was 16 years old in a bank affiliated with Morgan Guaranty Trust Company in New York, NY. I worked in the foreign exchange department for almost 5 years, then immigrated to the US and worked at various companies in accounting, administration and finance for several years until I got accepted to Northeastern University in 2008 as a Research Administrator in the Physics Department and worked there for almost 5 years. In 2012 I accepted a new position at the Bouve College of Health Sciences as Research Grants Manager and worked in the Dean’s Office of Research for another 5 years.
What are the key aspects of your role at Northeastern? What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Working with many faculty members gives me the opportunity to engage in various disciplines and practices of higher education. My job enables me to help faculty obtain funding for their research and assist them with managing their grants and complying with funding agencies policies and regulations.
What’s the most compelling thing to you about the work that goes on at Khoury?
Working with faculty members gives me the opportunity to learn more about research and the advances in society that come from it.
Where did you grow up or spend your most defining years?
I am originally from the Middle East. At the age of 23, I immigrated to the US and lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Our family consisted of five children. My father worked at a bank and my mother was a tailor. She always made sure we were dressed very properly and had a good education. We all learned three languages, as my mother said “each language you learn is a different person.”
What led you to work in your field and/or study at your college?
My experience in Finance, Budget and Administration led me to apply for the opportunity to work with the grants and assist faculty in managing their grants and accounts.
