About Me


Connor Zanin is a PhD student in Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences. His primary field of study is computer systems, and he is advised by Professor Alan Mislove. Zanin, a local from Lexington, MA, earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware.

Zanin’s research areas include systems and networks. His current research projects include working on process migration and check-pointing applications, and he hopes to create programs that have real, practical impacts on the nature and use of technology.

What are the specifics of your graduate education (thus far)?

My focus is on process migration and check-pointing applications. I am working on making the migration of processes fast and efficient, and exploring useful applications of the technology.

What are your research interests?

Although I am excited about my current work, I did not know specifically what my focus would be as an undergraduate student. I became interested in computer science because I saw it as an incredible tool for solving problems and expressing creativity. I am interested in systems research, rather than theory, based on this love for creating programs that may have real impact on the nature and use of technology.

What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?

My goal is to abstract the limited resources of a physical machine from a process.

What aspect of what you do is most interesting?

Contributing to large, open-source software systems is challenging and rewarding. Being able to understand and make minimally invasive changes to a large code base in order to accomplish some goal is a great skill to have and to develop. I love finding simple solutions to problems that at first seem complex.

What are your research or career goals, going forward?

My goal is to produce a prototype. My work is conceptually simple, practically difficult. Success for me is measured by the functionality of my solution.
