Ali is a PhD student in the Computer Science program at Khoury College of Computer Sciences, advised by Professor Guevara Noubir. The Tehran native is a graduate of Sharif University of Technology, where he received his bachelor’s degree.
Ali’s research area is Natural Language Processing (NLP), Reinforcement Learning, Computer Vision, and Video Understanding. Ali worked in maps team at Google in 2018 as part of the GeoAR effort for GoogleMaps. Later, he joined Adobe as a Senior Machine Learning Researcher, where he is mainly working on video understanding and NLP problems. Ali has published several books, articles and patents, and has won medals in computer olympiads (INOI). Ali’s startup, Comfo, provides machine learning based solutions for disabled people and his research is directed toward that.
What are your research interests?
As a machine learning researcher, I am focused on video understanding and natural language processing.
What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?
Incorporating state-of-the-art machine learning solutions in products and tools to provide unseen experiences.
What aspect of what you do is most interesting?
Deep learning has delivered practically all of the most stunning achievements in artificial intelligence so far, from systems that beat us at our own games to art-producing neural networks that rival human creativity. Using this to provide unseen products and new applications for disabled people is the most interesting part of my job.
What are your research or career goals, going forward?
I intend to achieve sufficient results to improve and provide more innovative solutions in out start-up for disabled people.
