Alfonso Barajas Cervantes
Education
- BS in Data Science (Mathematics), National Autonomous University of Mexico
Biography
Alfonso Barajas Cervantes is a doctoral student in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, based in Boston. He is advised by Predrag Radivojac.
Barajas Cervantes’ research explores the interplay of evidence codes for declaring genomic variants pathogenic using Bayesian networks and Gaussian mixture models, which are a form of probabilistic machine learning. He is passionate about the intersection of machine learning and computational biology, delving into massive data sets, and the deployment of probabilistic graphical models.
Outside of his research, Barajas Cervantes has worked at Khoury College as a teaching assistant for discrete structures and supervised machine learning courses. Prior to joining Khoury College, he studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he researched cryptocurrency pricing trends using time series analysis and topological data analysis tools.
In his free time, he enjoys running, calisthenics, and following his Christian faith.
