CS7470  Seminar in PL: Influential Ideas in Programming Languages (Spring 2026)

Assessment

Email the instructor an evaluation of your peer’s presentation. Ideally, you should send this on the day of the presentation, but certainly no later than 11am the morning after the presentation.

Use subject: cs7470 Assessment MM/DD, where MM/DD is the presentation date.

The assessment is intended to help you listen and reflect. It should consist of feedback on both the content and the presentation. Use the following template for your response:

Part I: The Ideas

• Which are the major, distinct ideas that were covered?
• How do the ideas build on each other?
• How do the ideas differ from each other?

Part II: The Presentation

• Was the presenter able to explain the idea in his/her own words? Did the explanations feel like copy-and-paste from the articles?
• Did the ideas come through, or did they get buried in details? Did the presenter clarify which details supported which ideas?
• Did the presenter use the blackboard space in a meaningful manner?
• Did the presenter manage time appropriately? Was the time spent on various aspects proportional to their relative importance?
• Was the articulation clear and directed to the audience?

These questions are meant to help you reflect on the presentations. I expect reflective responses to these questions, not literal one-sentence answers. You may also wish to reflect on how the ideas presented influence present-day ideas and work in PL research.
