SUMMARY:Break Into Tech: Virtual Tech Talk
DESCRIPTION:Register now\n\n\n\n\nYour future in tech starts here — join us for an upcoming event\n\n\n\nBreak Into Tech: No experience required\n\n\n\nYou don’t need a background in tech to have a future in it. All you need is curiosity — and opportunity. Join other curious students and professionals with no tech background to learn about flexible pathways to a master’s degree in artificial intelligence\, computer science\, and cybersecurity\, online and in person. \n\n\n\nAttend this Zoom session with Khoury faculty to explore emerging topics\, current projects\, and innovative research shaping the future of computing. Hear how people from all fields — arts\, business\, health care\, and more — are finding their place in tech. \n\n\n\nFind your pathway into tech\n\n\n\nAttend a Break Into Tech event to: \n\n\n\n\nGet insights into today’s challenges in artificial intelligence\, computer science\, and cybersecurity—and how you might solve them.\n\n\n\nDiscover how the Align master’s programs create flexible pathways to tech careers for learners from all disciplines.\n\n\n\nExplore next steps to build the skills and confidence you need to succeed in this fast-changing field.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: Participants must hold a bachelor’s degree or be nearing college graduation to participate. \n\n\n\nBreak Into Tech is for everyone\n\n\n\n\n150+ different disciplines\n\n\n\nStudents of Align master’s programs come from all backgrounds\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Align Master of Science\n\n\n\nAlign is a 2.5-year program in artificial intelligence\, computer science\, or cybersecurity that provides a flexible pathway to a master’s degree for motivated students and professionals holding a bachelor’s in any discipline. \n\n\n\nYour experience matters — help shape the future of tech\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter my undergraduate studies\, I worked as a corporate finance analyst in a two-year rotational program at a bulge bracket investment bank. I gained business management and financial analysis skills. I did not enjoy working with the legacy database systems at this bank. This frustration was one of my introductions to tech. … I am getting a graduate degree in computer science to understand the technicalities of building software applications and become a well-rounded product manager. Luckily\, I found the Align CS program to help with the transition\, especially since I had little programming experience. … I see an entrepreneurial future in merging my love for music\, sports\, and personal finance with some tech solutions. I look forward to growing as a computer scientist and working on cool projects \n—Princewill\, Align MSCS ’25 BS Economics\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Black Voices in Tech: She Codes the Culture (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Register now\n\n\n\n\nThe Tech Collective Presents: Black Voices in Tech\n\n\n\nIn celebration of Black History Month\, we invite you to join us for Black Voices In Tech: She Codes the Culture. \n\n\n\nTamiyoo Desir and Promise Owa\, computer science students at Khoury College\, share their personal journeys navigating education\, identity\, and opportunity as Black women entering the tech space. This conversation highlights resilience\, community\, and the power of claiming space in an industry still being reshaped. \n\n\n\nTamiyoo Desir\, MSCS Align Student Ambassador\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“From library assistant to computer scientist\, my story starts in Fort Lauderdale\, Florida. I originally ventured out of my hometown to get my undergraduate degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of Iowa. After finishing this degree\, I took a gap year to reorient myself and figure out what my next steps should be. This led me to the Google UX Design Certificate Program where I discovered that there was more to tech than coding and software engineering. \n\n\n\n“As I pursue my master’s degree in computer science\, I want to use my voice and my position as a student ambassador to enforce the idea that the field of tech is versatile and ever-changing\, and that it truly is for anyone willing to take the leap.” \n\n\n\nPromise Owa\, MSCS student and educational innovator\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A former educator from Delta State\, Nigeria\, I am redefining what it means to be a Black woman in tech. Currently pursuing my master’s in computer science at Northeastern University\, I began my career as a kindergarten teacher in Abuja. While I spent my days shaping young minds\, I spent my breaks troubleshooting tech for my colleagues — an awakening that eventually led me to defy the “it’s too late” narrative and transition into software development. \n\n\n\n“After joining a women-focused bootcamp and working as a web developer/UX researcher for a UK-based firm\, I am now deepening my technical foundation in the US. My work is a tribute to the She Codes the Culture mission: I am currently researching ways to personalize K-12 education for underserved students in sub-Saharan Africa\, aiming to bridge the digital divide for marginalized populations. By combining my expertise in pedagogy with high-level technical skills\, I am creating affordable\, sustainable tools designed to empower low-income families. I am committed to mentoring women and youth in the underserved communities\, proving that it is never too late to claim your space in the digital revolution.” \n\n\n\n\nRegister now

SUMMARY:Lightning Talk Series: Cracking the Code: Reimagining the Vigenère Cipher (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Register now\n\n\n\n\nKhoury Sparks: A Lightning Talk Series is an engaging\, high-impact 20-minute talk series that connects prospective graduate students with Khoury faculty and current graduate students. Khoury Sparks showcases cutting-edge research\, applied projects\, and teaching innovations — highlighting how graduate study at Khoury College is exciting\, attainable\, and deeply connected to the needs of today’s tech industry. \n\n\n\nCracking the Code: Reimagining the Vigenère Cipher \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat happens when you apply modern computational power to centuries-old cryptography? This talk will break down the research behind an award-winning project\, by graduate student Ruby Lo\, that transforms the Vigenère Cipher from a historical relic into a modern\, lightweight security tool. \n\n\n\nWhile the original cipher was restricted to only 26 letters\, we’ll walk you through how this polyalphabetic substitution re-engineered cipher into a flexible and fully customizable encryption framework\, allowing it to secure the complex data strings used by modern connected devices. By prioritizing performance over computational complexity\, this research offers a practical solution for resource-constrained devices where standard modern encryption is often too heavy to run. \n\n\n\nJoin this talk to learn how to take a foundational algorithm and rebuild it for a modern technical landscape. \n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\n\nQuestions?
