SUMMARY:Seminar: Blockchain risk — a distributed-systems perspective (Boston)
DESCRIPTION:Register now\n\n\n\n\nThis seminar analyzes blockchain as a distributed-systems architecture and examines the risks that arise when these systems are deployed at scale. It focuses on how consensus design\, smart-contract execution\, cryptographic dependencies\, and network topology introduce distinct classes of failure modes\, including contract vulnerabilities\, oracle weaknesses\, and cross-chain bridge exploits. The session also considers the operational and security challenges that emerge when blockchain components interface with cloud infrastructure and enterprise systems. \n\n\n\nAbout the speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlly Hoffman is a part-time lecturer in Khoury College and teaches in the MSCY program. She also serves as assistant vice president of risk and policy at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas\, where she leads governance\, technology risk\, and supervisory strategy for emerging fintech and digital asset activities. Previously\, she led the Federal Reserve System’s crypto-asset task force\, coordinating supervisory responses during periods of market stress. Hoffman is a recipient of the William Taylor Award\, the Federal Reserve’s highest supervisory honor. She holds a BS in business administration from Boston University\, an MS in cybersecurity from Northeastern University\, and a PhD in business administration from Oklahoma State University. \n\n\n\n\nRegister now

SUMMARY:Break Into Tech: Vancouver
DESCRIPTION:Register now\n\n\n\n\nYou don’t need a background in tech to have a future in it. All you need is curiosity—and the right opportunity. Join other students and professionals from non-computer science fields to explore the flexible pathways—both online and in person—to a master’s degree in artificial intelligence\, computer science\, and cybersecurity. You’ll walk away with a stronger understanding of how these fields are reshaping the workforce\, what technical and analytical skills a graduate degree builds\, and how that skill set positions you to lead\, problem-solve\, and innovate in a career landscape increasingly defined by AI. \n\n\n\n\n\nEarning her master’s in computer science through the Align program in Vancouver\, Katie finds herself immersed in a career path she’d never imagined. Learn about Katie’s journey.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFind your pathway into tech\n\n\n\nAt any Break Into Tech event\, you will: \n\n\n\n\nGet a real picture of how AI is reshaping the job market—and where the skill set you gain with a graduate degree can position you within it.\n\n\n\nDiscover the career paths a master’s degree opens up and why the skills and perspective you already have matter more than you might expect.\n\n\n\nExplore next steps to build the skills and confidence you need to succeed in this fast-changing field.\n\n\n\nLearn how Northeastern’s Align pathways are flexible in the curriculum\, format\, and skills you’ll build to stay competitive as AI continues to evolve.\n\n\n\n\nFor this in-person Break Into Tech: \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an informative session and interactive activities that introduce computing concepts. Take this opportunity to connect with the Northeastern community in Vancouver\, and see how your unique background can help you thrive in tech.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: Participants must hold a bachelor’s degree or be nearing college graduation. Your full name is required when registering for the event. If the event is in person\, you may be requested to show your photo ID; please ensure your registered name matches your name as listed on your ID. \n\n\n\n\nRegister now
