Title: The Titan Security Key: A Real-World Secure Embedded System

Building secure embedded systems is a challenging endeavor, one only made more difficulty by the nature of the proprietary and generally closed solutions provided by the market. This talk uses an in-house developed Universal 2nd-Factor (U2F) Security Key to motivate a holistic security discussion for embedded systems.
He will briefly touch on the problem of e-mail account phishing and how U2F solves the problem. He will describe his experience in building Google’s implementation of a U2F Security Key, the Titan Security Key, based on the Titan silicon root of trust chip.
The Titan Key will serve as an example throughout to discuss four broad areas of system security: securing an embedded operating system, provably correct cryptographic implementations, supply chain and manufacturing assurances and the importance of implementation transparency.
At the end of the talk he will describe current work to improve the security of each of the those domains relative to the Titan Key embodiment. Throughout he emphasizes the importance of transparency in building modern, trustworthy secure systems.
About the Speaker
Dominic Rizzo is a Technical Program Manager and Engineer at Google where he works on security authentication, including hardware authentication. He has attended the California Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology for Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Aeronautical Engineering.
