Indigenous Voices in Tech (Vancouver)

March 17 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm PDT

The Tech Collective Presents: Indigenous Voices in Tech

This session, presented by the Tech Collective at Khoury College, will showcase how Indigenomics AI is driving Indigenous economic value identification and growth, supporting economic sovereignty, and enhancing capacity for self-determination while examining AI’s transformative potential in economic development.

Speaker Carol Anne Hilton will introduce the Indigenomics AI platform and connect the importance of Indigenous economic data to the growth of the Indigenous economy, self-determination, reconciliation, and community wealth development. This talk will also examine Indigenous data ethics and identify the need for strong data governance to prevent misuse of Indigenous data and preserve cultural integrity.

Following the talk, Khoury Visiting Professor Yvonne Coady — whose work has included co-developing software learning tools and platforms with Indigenous communities and expanding access to computing beyond specialized research settings — will facilitate a conversation with Carol Anne and open the floor for an audience Q&A.
